INDIAN FAIRS AND FESTIVALS IN SEPTEMBER
Tarnetar Mela (Tarnetar, Saurashtra): A unique fair which is also a marriage market for the local tribals. The traditional costumes, jewellery, gaily decorated parasols ('chhatris') and folk dances are on view.
Ganesh Chaturthi (in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu): Dedicated to the elephant- headed God Ganesha, it is an 11 day festival. Images of Ganesha are immersed on the last day.
Ganesh Festival (Pune, Maharashtra): This cultural feast of folk and classical dances and music, coincides with the merry making and gaiety of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Bhadra Purnima (Ambaji, Gujarat): Farmers and general public congregate at the Ambaji temple in their colourful costumes on this full moon. Much merriment and performances of the 'bhavani' and 'garba'.
